2019 X Duo Run n Roll

Rocky Gully / Cypress Hill Twilight Rumble Edition…

DATE: Sunday October 12 2019

TIME: 17:00 X Duo Start, 17:30 13km Rocky Gully Cypress Hill Trail Run

Presentations: 19:30

LOCATION: 518 Maurice Rd, Kinchina Conservation Park

After a 2 year hiatus, X Duo Rocky Gully Rumble edition is back! With the addition of the opening of the new Destination Trails Built and SA Govt funded Cypress Hill Trail this course is set to be the best yet!

The 1st leg is a 5km technical Trail Run that loops around Getaway Car Trail before taking the Rocky Gully Link Trail down into Rocky Gully to follow the Lavender Federation Trail from East to West through Kinchina Conservation Park. As you exit the park you follow the train line to the train crossing before taking the gate into the North of Kinchina CP where the bike drop is.

The bike leg Transition area will have lollies, water and hydration powder. The strategy you decide for this race will depend largely on if you will take time to change into cleats or go flat pedals for a speedy changeover. If you only have one pair of runners you may need to take them with you on the bike leg for the final run or run and ride in them with flat pedals.

The bike leg commences with a sharp short burn uphill on a potentially soft and sandy surface to the start of the newly opened (trail open day on race day) Cypress Hill Trail. This is a marvellous creation by Destination Trails and is approx 6-7km of prime twisting and turning single track XC trail. This new section ends with a switchback descent onto the rock bridge crossing before a (recommended) dismount push through the train tunnel and back into Rocky Gully. A short ride through Rocky Gully takes you back onto the Jailbreak Trail where you climb out of the Gully, dismount to safely cross Maurice Rd (Mandatory) and jump back on the single trail to take Jailhouse Loops down to the 2nd Maurice Rd Crossing (Mandatory Dismount) and take Getaway Car loop back to the finish line and final Run Leg Transition.

The Final Run Leg 2 is a short 2.6km blast home to the finish. But don’t let it fool you! The course goes straight down hill and drops elevation very quickly. But… will your legs have adjusted from transitioning off the bike yet?? Once you converge with the middle leg of the bike course for approx. 1km, take care of straggling riders. This is not a fast section of the bike course so there should not be any collisions here, particularly on the climb out of the gully. Take a left onto the Rocky Gully link trail for the final 800m of technical trail run before the final 200m push uphill to the finish line!

Once you’ve finished and have the stomach for it, hang around for your included meal and beverage of choice, cheer on the final finishers and those who have had extended bonus time on the course, tell tales from your twilight travels on the trails…
